I left around 12:50pm from the Airbnb. While walking, I adjusted my plan to a much better one. I guess walking and getting sunlight really helped to clear my mind! My original plan was to explore Chelsea, Manhattan today, but I needed to come back to Brooklyn by 5pm today. I changed plans to go to East Village, Manhattan which was only one train ride away and a few stops earlier on that train, giving me more time to sightsee. I walked to the Myrtle-Wyckoff station and took the L train to First Ave. The weather was warm, sunny and beautiful. I had a 10 minute walk from 1st Ave. and E. 14th St. to E. 6th St., where my lunch destination, Spicy Moon - East Village, was. It was so nice to have that walk on 1st Ave. This area did not have skyscrapers, and it seemed more residential/community based. The street had so many different small restaurants and shops. There were so many people walking around as well on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Seriously, the sun was shining all day today.
Spicy Moon - East Village is an all vegan szechaun restuarant. It was a small and cozy inside. The restaurant's decor was cute too, with a pink wall painted with flowers. There were also some black and white photographs on the wall. I think every vegan restaurant I've been to has had artsy and unique decor for their restuarant, which matches a theme. And the bathroom decor is the most creative!
For small bites, I decided to order vegan sour cream and spring onion potato dumplings. From their bowls, I ordered vegetable wonton soup. Both were so delicious! The vegetable wonton soup hit the spot. It was steaming when they brought it out. It had so many vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, scallions, cilantro, and mushrooms. I also asked for chilli oil to add to the soup. The wontons were delicious. I liked breaking the wonton in half and having it with the broth. I think next time I would only order the vegetable wonton soup with a side of rice, and not order the extra dumplings. Though the potato and sour cream dumplings were delicious. The soup came in a huge bowl, and towards the end I was getting full, but I did finish everything (see picture below). I had such a nice time and it was so relaxing to sit there on a Sunday afternoon. Overall, East Village was the perfect area to explore for an afternoon. See images below of my lunch.
See my next blog post about this day where I explored Tompkins Square Park and Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space.
